Split-tender checkout for South African online stores

Sell the cart one payment method can't carry.

BlendPay lets a shopper pay one order in two parts, with two of the methods your store already accepts: a card and Payflex, or two cards. The shopper gets a way to say yes to the thing they came for. You get the sale.

Who it's for

Made for the carts worth saving.

Watches, jewellery, furniture, appliances, electronics. When the cart runs into the thousands, a single card limit or a single buy now, pay later limit is often all that stands between a shopper and the checkout's last button.

Buy now, pay later does its best work between R800 and R8,000. BlendPay is built for what sits above that: the shopper can put part of the order on Payflex and the rest on a card, in one checkout.

23.4%

of online shoppers spent more than R2,000 online over six months in 2024, the largest single bracket

Why now

South Africans want to buy online. The payment step is where too many of those sales end.

61.2%

of online retailers name card decline as a reason carts are abandoned, more than any other reason

30.1%

of online shoppers had a payment declined in the past year, despite having the funds or credit

39.3%

of those shoppers abandoned the purchase, and a further 17.3% bought from another retailer

54.7%

of online retailers now offer buy now, pay later, up from 15.9% a year earlier

How an order moves

One order. Two parts. Your providers, your settlement.

01 Shopper

Chooses two of your methods and sets the split.

A card and Payflex, or two cards. Part 2 is always the rest of the total, so the parts can't fail to add up.

02 Provider

Approves each part on its own page.

The same hosted pages your checkout uses today. If part 2 doesn't go through, the shopper can try another method before part 1 is refunded.

03 You

Get one paid order, settled as usual.

Each part settles with the provider that took it. Money never passes through BlendPay, and card numbers never reach us or your site.

At the moment of decline

When a payment says no, BlendPay offers a second way through.

Turn on recovery and the row appears right after your own payment is declined, with the same total in two parts. Every order paid this way is marked as recovered, so you can count what came back each month from the first order.

1.5%

of online retailers approve every card payment they process

The store's own checkout

Payment declined

Your card was declined for R14,000.00.

BlendPay

You can pay this total in two parts instead, with Card and Payflex. No new account.

Every order, on the record

Every order can be explained, line by line.

Each step is written down before anything changes: what we asked a provider, what it answered, and when. Nothing is overwritten. When a shopper calls about a payment, you can see exactly what happened.

Flexibility for the shopper. Nothing new to run for the store.

For shoppers

  • Pay in two parts with methods you already use. No new account.
  • BlendPay doesn't lend. If a part is Payflex, Payflex lends, just as it would on its own.
  • If part 2 doesn't go through, you can try another method, or part 1 is refunded automatically.

For merchants

  • Your providers, settlement and reconciliation stay exactly as they are.
  • If BlendPay is ever down, your checkout draws without it and works as it did.
  • You pay only on orders BlendPay helped finish, and you can count them.
63%

of shoppers choose where to buy partly because paying is easy and secure

Pricing

You pay on the orders we helped finish.

Here is the fee as it would appear on your monthly invoice. Your providers charge their own fees, as they do now. Splitting a cart doesn't double a percentage fee; only a provider's fixed fee per transaction is paid twice.

One script tag. One div.

The row is a small, self-contained script that sits above your payment options and talks only to our API. Removing BlendPay is removing a div.
